- Hardware requirements
-
- To run HoTMetaL 2.0, we recommend (as a minimum) a Macintosh with a 68030
- processor and a clock speed of 33 MHz (e.g., Mac IIfx, Mac IIvx, Performa
- 600, Color Classic II), and 8 Mb of RAM. You must be running System 7.x. For
- optimal performance, you should have a PowerMacintosh or a Macintosh with a
- 68040 or 68LC040 processor and a clock speed of 25 MHz or greater (e.g.,
- Quadras, most Centrises, PowerBook 520 and higher), and 12 Mb of RAM.
-
- HoTMetaL requires 3.5 Mb of available RAM (that is, memory that is not being
- used by other applications or the operating system), and prefers 4.5 Mb. To
- check how much memory is available, choose the command About this
- Macintosh... from the Macintosh Apple menu. This will tell you how much
- memory is available, and how much memory each running application is using.
-
- If you do not have enough memory available, you can try the following
- strategies:
-
- 1. Close some applications
- 2. If your document contains graphic images, minimize memory use by
- choosing the command Hide Inline Images from the View Menu.
- 3. Increase the amount of virtual memory available by using the Memory
- control panel (to get this control panel, choose Control panels from
- the Apple menu and then click on the Memory icon). After you increase
- the amount of memory, you must reboot your Macintosh. This option is
- less desirable if you are using a PowerBook.
- 4. Purchase more RAM.
- 5. You may wish to reboot the Macintosh with Extensions off. (Just after
- starting the reboot, hold down the shift key, and release it when you
- see the Welcome to Macintosh notice.)
-
- Known problems
-
- Displaying images
-
- * Images that do not occur on the same line as the start-tag of a block
- element (for example, a paragraph, blockquote, heading, etc.) may be
- truncated. This may affect the display of surrounding text. A
- workaround is to surround these images with a paragraph.
- * Sometimes images will be truncated if the document window is small. You
- should try resizing the window.
-
- Previewing
-
- If you want to preview a new file or a template that has never been saved
- you should save it before you preview. Otherwise some images may not be
- displayed in the browser.
-
- Using RAM Doubler
-
- You should not use "RAM Doubler" if you have virtual memory turned on. This
- could cause HoTMetaL or other applications to crash your Macintosh.
